What is PBL?
Mitchelton Special School is a Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) school. PBL is a whole-school framework that promotes positive behaviour and helps schools develop safe and supportive learning environments. We ensure all students are explicitly taught the expected behaviours and establish clear and consistent boundaries. Staff take a proactive, preventative approach to ensure all students receive the appropriate level of support to help them to be successful at school. Student outcomes are monitored so identified students can receive additional support when needed, and a minority of students can access intensive support to enable them to engage successfully at school.
School expectations
PBL at Mitchelton Special School is based around our three school-wide expectations Safe, Respectful, Learner. Our students engage in explicit teaching within their classes to support and develop their understanding of these expectations.
Mitchie Magics
Students receive a Mitchie Magic token as their free and frequent reward for displaying safe, respectful and learner behaviour. These tokens are designed to be given out ‘free and frequently’ with explicit feedback e.g. here is a Mitchie Magic because you asked saying please, please is a respectful word. When students have collected all their Mitchie Magic tokens they are able to visit the administration office for a reward and a post card home to their families.
