The junior secondary program caters for students in years 7 to 9. All of our students have an Individual Curriculum Plan (ICP) which is tailored to their learning needs. At Mitchelton Special School we deliver the Australian Curriculum through hands on practical pedagogies. Students in this sector of the school access the following 7 learning areas from the Australian Curriculum including:
- English
- Mathematics
- Science
- History
- Geography
- Visual arts
- Health and physical education
There is a
focus on teaching independence skills through the Australian curriculum
in preparation for the Pathways programme. Teachers continue to build on
social and communication skills whilst focusing on every students
individual needs. Junior Secondary take part in specialised sports
sessions with coaches throughout the year.
The
Junior Secondary section supports every student to stay on track with
positive transitions Middles through to Pathways. Creating positive
interactions and learning environments for the individual students.
