VET Program – Building Skills for Life and Work

At Mitchelton Special School, our VET (Vocational Education and Training) program supports students in developing practical, hands-on skills that prepare them for future employment, further education, and independent living.

We currently offer:
Certificate I in Sport and Recreation – introducing students to the fundamentals of working in the sport and fitness industry, with a focus on teamwork, communication, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

AVP (Accessible Vocational Pathways) – a highly supported and flexible course that helps students develop core employability and life skills tailored to their individual strengths and goals.

Our VET courses are tailored to meet individual student goals and abilities, with a strong focus on real-world experiences. Through supported work placements and community engagement, students build confidence, independence, and nationally recognised skills.

We work closely with local businesses, TAFEs, and community partners to ensure meaningful pathways for each student.
The VET program is a key part of our commitment to helping every student find their pathway to adulthood, whether that means open employment, supported work, further training, or meaningful engagement in the community.

Students of Mitchelon Special School may be enrolled in one or more VET certificate courses offered through Special Education Training Alliance (SETA) that are taught at MItchelton Special School by VET trained school staff. These courses are overseen and managed by the SETA central RTO based at Western Suburbs Special School (RTO 41021). On successful completion of the course each student is awarded a nationally recognised qualification. If a student does not complete the full qualification they would then receive a Statement of Attainment outlining the units that have been successfully completed.
The courses available at Mitchelton Special School are:

•    BSB10120 – Certificate I in Workplace Skills
•    FSK10119 – Certificate I in Access to Vocational Pathways
